The Academy of Vocal Arts, one of the world’s premier institutions for training young opera soloists, presents the Giargiari Bel Canto Competition. AVA Resident Artists will perform Italian, French and German arias from a variety of periods. AVA Master Vocal Coach Danielle Orlando is the music director and pianist. In addition to competing for cash prizes awarded by a panel of esteemed judges, including Gayletha Nichols and Benita Valente, audience members vote for their favorite singer to receive the Audience Favorite Prize. All winners are announced live. The Giagiari Bel Canto Competition has been showcasing the emerging generation of international opera performers to Philadelphia audiences for over 30 years.
