The Academy of Vocal Arts will present Debussy’s only opera, Pelléas et Mélisande with piano accompaniment February 25, 26, 28, March 1, and 3 in the Helen Corning Warden Theater at AVA . Faculty member Luke Housneris music director and pianist. AVA's president and artistic director K. James McDowell is the stage director.
On Wednesday, February 15 at 5:30 p.m, AVA will present a free opera preview. There will be a brief discussion of the opera from Luke Housner and K. James McDowell, along with musical selections by the cast.
SYNOPSIS: A love triangle between a woman, the prince she marries and his younger half-brother. The prince finds a young woman lost in a forest. They quickly marry before returning to the castle. There, she falls in love with his younger half-brother. The prince grows suspicious of the lovers, and seeks out the truth – one that comes with fatal consequences.
