Christmas in Renaissance Italy

Piffaro’s annual holiday concert takes listeners back in time to the 16th century Kingdom of Naples. Renowned as the “conservatory of Europe,” the city boasted an abundance of talented composers and players to supply music to accompany Nativity plays, crèche scenes, and feasts. 

Piffaro’s program will mirror the variety of music enjoyed by these Renaissance revelers: Spanish and Italian, contemplative and rowdy, divine and earthy.

Presenting The Laughing Bird!

The Laughing Bird doesn't necessarily need to be "introduced" - they have been around in one form or another for since 2010 and we have been privileged to work with their individual members through projects with Choral Arts and The Crossing.  That said, we are terribly excited to "present" this talented vocal quartet - Leslie Johnson, soprano, Jenifer L. The Winds of Yore and Now - Renaissance meets Contemporary!

As we go into our first rehearsal, Piffaro and Orchestra 2001 are crafting a unique experience for lovers of both early and modern winds. Fröhliche Weihnachten!

Rehearsals begin today for our German Renaissance Yuletide concerts this weekend!  Unlike ensembles symphony orchestras, or string quartets, we cannot determine exactly what our program will be until we all gather together the week before a performance.  The two dozen or more works that make up a typical Piffaro program must be fitted together like puzzle pieces -then taken apart and refitted again - in rehearsal with our full consort.  So we are very excited to see what today's first…
